Post Tension

Post-tension is a contruction method where steel strands encased in plastic tubing are cast within a concrete slab. The purpose is to add strength to the slab and minimize cracking. When not properly installed and maintained, the cables can begin to corrode which weakens the concrete slab and may lead to collapse.

In Alberta, condominium plans registered after September 1, 2000 must be accompanied by a certificate signed by an architect, engineer or surveyor that states whether post-tensioned cables are or are not present in the condominium.
